What is PPF (Public Provident Fund)?
Public Provident Fund (PPF) is a long-term investment scheme backed by the Government of India. It offers a safe investment option with attractive interest rates and tax benefits. The interest earned is compounded annually and is completely tax-free, making it one of the most popular savings schemes in India.
- Lock-in Period: The standard lock-in period for a PPF account is 15 years.
- Investment Limit: You can invest a minimum of ₹500 and a maximum of ₹1,50,000 in a financial year.
- Tax Benefits: PPF falls under the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category. This means your investment, the interest earned, and the maturity amount are all exempt from tax.
How to Use This Calculator
This calculator helps you forecast the maturity value of your PPF investment. Follow these simple steps:

- Enter Yearly Investment: Use the slider or the input box to set the amount you plan to invest each year.
- Set Interest Rate: The calculator is pre-filled with the current PPF interest rate (7.1%). You can change this to simulate different rate scenarios.
- Define Time Period: The minimum period is 15 years. You can extend this in blocks of 5 years (up to 50 years) to see how your investment grows over a longer-term.
- Calculate: Click the “Calculate” button.
Understanding the Results
Once you calculate, you will see three key figures:
- Total Investment: The total principal amount you have invested over the entire period. (Yearly Investment × Time Period).
- Total Interest: The total wealth gained through compound interest.
- Maturity Value: The final amount you will receive at the end of the investment period. (Total Investment + Total Interest).
The PPF Growth Chart provides a visual representation of how your investment grows year by year. The chart clearly distinguishes between your principal investment and the interest earned, helping you understand the power of compounding.
